SILENT FILM DAYS OF JACKSONVILLE -This month’s program will be presented by Devan Stuart-Lesley, President of Norman Studios. Founded in 1916 in Jacksonville, Florida as Eagle Film City and purchased by Richard E. Norman in 1921, the Norman Studios was among the nation’s first to produce films starring African American characters in positive, non-stereotypical roles. Today, Norman’s five-building studio complex survives in Jacksonville’s Old Arlington neighborhood. Devan will show a film entitled: “Hollywood East: Florida’s Silent Film Legacy”. Learn how the top motion picture producers of the day came to reside in Northeast Jacksonville and why they left for the West Coast. Following will be a short Q & A session.

March Antiquing Program: The owner of China Cat Antiques, Susan Blackwood-Alabbassi, will appraise 20 antiques at our March luncheon. There was a sign-up sheet at January’s Luncheon for any single item you might want to have appraised. Susan will pick the top 20 antiques she believes to be most interesting for March’s program. In order to have your item chosen for our very own ANTIQUES HOME SHOW, you must email a picture of it to Susan by the end of February, along with a brief description. After the sign-up sheet is compiled, Bev Severns will send you the information as to where to email the picture and description of your treasure. Contact Bev by February 7th to sign up,

Travel: February 1 - Let’s create a mosaic project with Beach Life Mosaics. Meet at Harbor Chase in the 2nd floor ballroom at 9:30am. For lunch we will drive to Moon Dog Pie (115 Bartram Oaks Walk - Shops of Bartram Park) at about 12:30pm. Important: You must go online, www.beachlifemosaics.com/ to select a project and then email your choice, by January 29 to firstname.lastname@example.org (reference Mandarin Women's Club). Dining Out: February 9 - We will be dining at Fionn MacCool's Irish Pub and Restaurant at 6:30pm, 145 Hilden Road, Ponte Vedra. Located in a shopping center on the left side of Philips Highway going south. Please consult Wayz or Google Maps apps for directions. Movie Mania: February 12 – “Crazy Rich Asians”. The movie will begin promptly at 1pm at the Harbor Chase Theatre located on the 3rd Floor. For lunch, we will meet at Sonny’s BBQ Restaurant at 11:30am before the movie. To sign up email Toby Richmond.
Recipe Exchange: February 13 from 11:30am till 2pm - This month's theme is "Casseroles" and will be hosted by Jean Hopper. There is a limit of 16. Bring copy of recipe and containers for leftovers. Cost is $2.00. Car pool suggested. Contact Jean to reserve your place.
Antiquing: February 15 (week late) – Mount Dora for the Renningers Extravaganza. The entrance fee is $10 and parking is free. Rain or shine. Over 800 vendors as well as food vendors, with everything from Japanese to seafood to lemonade and ice cream, and live shows. We will leave promptly at 8am from the Beall's parking lot on San Jose. Since gas prices are down, the trip cost will only be $9. To join us contact Nancy Crowley.
NEW - GAME DAY: February 17 –Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 or 6pm at Harbor Chase. No COST. No RSVP. Bring a beverage/snack or you may purchase items with debit/credit (no cash). Bring any card or board game you wish to play, plus we will have games on hand. We will NOT play Bridge, Pennies or Mexican Train. Night Train: February 22 - Singles and Couples. Meet at Westminster Woods in the River Lounge at 6:30pm for social time; play will begin at 7pm. Park in any spot to the left of the flagpole in front of the building. There is no host, so please bring snacks to share and your own beverages.
